They’re pretty much all scams; only time and responsible money management can repair a credit history.

For your project, go to the websites of the credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and see what they say.
Also, check out the website of your State’s Attorney General or Consumer Protection office; there is a wealth of good information there also.

I agree that you pretty much have to reestablish your credit.
There are non-profit credit counselors that can negotiate for you lower payments. Their fee is usually minimal like $20 a month or so.

If you can reestablish your credit by being consistent and keeping a low to next to nothing balance.

Also, this is a lot harder than it sounds, live below your means. Just because one makes 50k a year or whatever, doesn’t necessarily mean you spend 50k a year. A lot of people have a hard time with this.

The answer is yes.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act, which was amended by The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act in 2003, outlines the laws that govern the credit bureaus and the entities reporting to the credit bureaus, the data furnishers. These laws specifically give consumers the right to challenge the accuracy and verifiability of the information being reported on their credit reports.

Should the credit bureaus and data furnishers not comply when asked to by consumers, the law requires that the information be removed. The law also states that consumers do not have the rights to have information removed from their credit report that is accurate, timely or verifiable.

In addition, credit experts can help consumers manage and structure their credit to achieve higher credit scores. Because credit scores are based on mathematical models that are a mystery for most consumers, there are a lot of options they may not be aware of to optimize their scores. For example, making sure their credit card companies are reporting their high credit limits, activating inactive cards and transferring business debt on personal credit cards to a business credit card can all dramatically raise their credit scores.

These are just a few of the reasons why credit repair is not only legal, but also easily done so within the confines of the law itself.
