Probably the best thing you can do is to get a secured credit card and use that to rebuild a history of paying on time. A secured card is where you put up a security deposit and your credit limit is equal to the deposit.

Many creditors love to give new unsecured cards to people just out of BK…don’t fall into this trap. They know that you can’t file again for 8 more years.

We’re wanting to buy a house in a year. We just applied for a FHA loan and were denied b/c my hubby doesn’t have any built credit (after declaring bankruptcy in 2004) and my credit is horrible after going delinquent on multiple credit cards over a year ago when we made a big move (600 mile move/no jobs = no money to pay credit cards).

So, now I want to repair my credit, but I’m unsure on where to start. I would like some credit repair advice, but I’m afraid of being scammed – or to use a consolidating agency. I do not want to consolodate – I know that looks bad on your credit.

Anyone been in this situation that can give me some help??

Сredit repair workеd fine to fix my credit. They disputed and removed lots of bad items from my credit report. I used this service – credit-report-free.totalh.com

I filed for bankruptcy in late January of this year and my debts are set to be discharged on May 8th. How do I begin to repair my credit now? I’ve looked at several similar questions here and most responses are to get a credit card and use it and pay it off well before the due date each month.

But what credit card? Who’s going to touch me right now? I’ve heard I’m not as much of a risk since they know I can’t file again for 7 years (not that I ever plan to do this again).

I’m afraid if I apply for a credit card and get turned down, it’s going to hurt my credit.

Any suggestions?

You will get alot of advice here on your question, but the only thing i will say is save your money and pay cash, good luck and may god be with you in your wallet

Credit Score is 555. I have one active credit card and am now being wise with money, saving it and what not. It seems that I let all my credit cards and such go into default and they are closed. Is it possible to improve my credit score? DO I have to wait the 7 years? Bankruptcy is not an option because I have no assets.

Unfortunately, since the accounts are closed, there really isn’t much you can do with that history. It’s there and the people who put it there have no incentive to have it removed. If you still owe a company money, you can negotiate a Pay for Delete agreement where they would remove the negative information in return for payment.

If your existing card is current, about the only thing you can do is be responsible going forward. Things will improve with time and a good history.

Each creditor you screwed can take it off themselves, but it will cost them money and time, I doubt many would.

Any agency telling you they can remove other companies legitimate entries and court orders is scamming you.

So, rather than taking the easy/lazy way out, I am going to negotiate with my creditors to pay off the old bills for as little as possible. The question is, would it look better on my credit to ask them to remove the entry completely once it is paid for, or should I leave it listed with, in some cases, several years of no payments, and a notation that it has been paid in full?
These are not credit cards, and almost nothing is charged off. They are old utilities, medical, junk like that. Mostly stuff between $100-$500 per account.

You may be able to negotiate the complete removal of non credit card debts like defaulted cell, medical, utility bills etc. from your credit report with a Pay for Delete agreement. This is a written agreement where you get a signed agreement from the debt collector (PRIOR to making any payment) where they offer to remove the negative items from your credit files after an agreed-to amount is paid. They will NOT want to do this….all they want is your money and their commission and they could not care less about your credit rating….Still, you have something they want (money) and that puts you in a position to negotiate on this issue. Example letter:

I am willing to resolve this issue if your firm sends me a written agreement that you will remove all negative notations from my credit report after the agreed-to amount is paid to you. Upon receipt of this letter I will mail you a USPS money order for this amount.
———————————-
Again, they are not going to want to do this…if they simply refuse to remove it, then you want to negotiate that they will update your credit report to "Paid in Full.” . You DO NOT want them to put “settled” on your credit report, as that’s a negative factor….

Remember, all therms IN WRITING FIRST, then you pay. Never accept verbal promises over the phone…they’ll promise you anything over the phone to get your money then they’ll deny that any agreement was ever made once they have your money.
